CTEC Director Jason Blazakis was recently quoted in Reuther’s “U.S. Designates Elite Iranian Force as Terrorist Organization.” In this article he believes that President Donald Trump’s decision to name Iran’s Revolutionary Guards a terrorist group could lead to deadly consequences for U.S. troops. This designation allows for IRGC-controlled Shiite Muslim militias “to take actions against U.S. assets in places like Baghdad’s Green Zone” and retaliate against U.S. forces in Iraq. The only “theoretical benefit” that Director Blazakis foresees is the slightly easier prosecutions by the Justice Department for those providing “material support.”
