Advanced Entry: Translation and Localization Management
We offer an in-person, 32-credit, two-semester program for students who meet our advanced entry requirements.

Admission Requirements
You may be eligible to complete the degree in only two semesters through advanced entry, if you meet the following requirements:
- Two or more years of work experience in a full-time localization role requiring some elements of project management or team management such as a language lead, language manager, project coordinator/manager, or account manager)
- Experience using at least one desktop CAT tool or TMS (e.g., Trados Studio, memoQ, or WorldServer)
- Experience managing typical localization workflows, like website, brochure, software, and/or subtitle localization
If you apply for advanced entry and do not qualify, we will automatically consider you for accelerated entry (three semesters) and the regular two-year program.
Language Requirement
You may satisfy the language requirement with 8 credits of courses in Translation, Language Studies, and/or Intercultural Competence (ICC).
Translation

- Specific advanced entry information: after taking 4 credits of translation courses, you may complete your language requirement with 4 credits of translation, language studies, or ICC courses.
Language Studies
- Review the general TLM information for taking language studies courses.
- Specific advanced entry information:
- after taking 4 credits of language studies courses, you may complete your language requirement with translation, linguistics, language studies, or ICC courses
- you may transfer up to 4 credits from completing 300-level courses at the Middlebury Summer Language Schools.
Intercultural Competence
- Learn to manage global and cross-cultural teams, address issues of power and identity, and improve communications through intercultural competence coursework.
- Minimum TOEFL or IELTS scores of 105 and 7.5 overall respectively are required for non-native English speakers.
- After taking 2 credits of ICC courses, you may complete your language requirement with translation, language studies, or ICC courses.
International Students
All in-person versions of the MA in Translation and Localization Management are designated as a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) degree programs.
If you are an international student who graduates from this program, and you are eligible to apply for standard Optional Practical Training (OPT), you may also qualify to apply for a STEM 24-month extension of your work authorization. Our International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) team can tell you more about these requirements.
