Center for the Blue Economy and the Environmental Policy & Management Master’s Degree Program

The Center for the Blue Economy supports the student experience for those in the Environmental Policy and Management master’s degree program.  CBE provides opportunities for funded fellowships over the summer for those specializing in Ocean and Coastal Resource Management and for some of our research projects, funded graduate research assistant positions.  In addition, we create networking and career exploration opportunities available through field experiences and the Environmental Justice and Sustainability speaker series.

Blue Economy Professional Training Program

The Center for the Blue Economy offers mid-career professionals in any field with interest in or responsibility for ocean and coastal policy non-degree training in blue economy concepts.  The training programs offer the fundamentals of ocean accounting, a basic understanding of financial resources for ocean environmental conservation, and an overview of the challenges of managing complex social and economic systems as they work together.

California Coast and Climate Semester Undergraduate Program

The Center for the Blue Economy supports the California Coast and Climate Semester, a program for undergraduate students that runs from January through May each year.  By living and studying on the coast of California, and in Monterey Bay in particular, students see first-hand evidence and hear stories of climate resilience, cultural and social upheaval, and climate innovation.  With a combination of classes tailored to their course and joining existing graduate level course, students earn up to 18 MIIS credits toward their undergraduate degrees.  Open to students at Middlebury College and other select universities.

Public Lectures: The Environmental Justice and Sustainability Speaker Series

Each year, the Center for the Blue Economy brings creative, pragmatic, and practice-based professionals to speak to our students and the public. For our students, this is an opportunity to network and learn from leading experts in the field, many of whom are our own alumni. We invite the public to come and be inspired by forward-thinking speakers who present cutting-edge solutions to complex problems across a wide variety of fields.
