Frequently Asked Questions

Due to the nature of the program and the goals of the Symposium, applications from American and West European institutions will be prioritized. However, anyone is welcome to apply.

The working languages of the Symposium are Russian and English, and experts conduct over 50% of lectures and classwork in Russian. MSSR does not accept fellows without advanced Russian language proficiency.

Fellows are expected and required to complete all weeks of the Symposium.

A typical day includes a rigorous full-day academic curriculum with additional preparatory content such as readings and assignments to be completed outside of instruction hours on fellows’ own time. Additional assignments are entirely at the discretion of visiting experts conducting the modules.
