Students representing the Institute have advanced to the finals of Invent2Prevent, a national competition where students build solutions that combat hate, bias, and extremism.
Students representing the Institute recently made it to the final round of Invent2Prevent, a national competition organized by the McCain Institute for International Leadership at Arizona State University and EdVenture Partners. Five Institute students will participate and present in the final competition: Courtney Cano MAIPD ’22, Katilyn Tierney MAIPD ’22, Niklas Peters (exchange semester), Peter Stewart MAIPD ’22, and Raider Fowler MPA/MAIEM ’22.
Through a Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies course on The Radical Right, and with assistance from classmates, the team developed a strategy called “Diverting Hate,” which identifies and intercepts populations at risk of falling into extremist echo chambers. The Radical Right course is taught by Professor Jason Blazakis, director of our Center on Terrorism, Extremism and Counterterrorism (CTEC).
The final competition will be streamed live on YouTube at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time on February 10 and will be accessible on Invent2Prevent’s website.
