United Nations Interpretation: J-Term Workshop
This intensive four-day workshop in January offers current students and alumni of the Middlebury Institute’s translation and interpretation programs the unique opportunity to learn about interpreting at the United Nations.

Who Can Participate
In addition to current students, alumni of the Middlebury Institute’s MA in Translation, MA in Translation and Interpretation, and MA in Conference Interpretation can participate in this workshop as follows:
- The one-hour introductory webinar will be in English and is available to all alumni of any language combination.
- The online, synchronous section of the full course (15 hours) is only available to Chinese A, B, or C language alumni and is taught by Professor Chuanyun Bao.
- The in-person section (15 hours) is only available to Spanish A, B, or C language alumni and is taught by Professor Leire Carbonell Aguero.
Workshop Structure
Day 1
- One-hour introductory webinar in English on UN interpretation, free of charge for current students and alumni of all MIIS translation and interpretation languages.
- The webinar will be followed by in-depth language pair interpretation training sessions for Chinese and Spanish. This is only open to Chinese and Spanish A, B, or C language alumni.
Days 2-4
- Intensive language pair interpretation training, including practical exercises and career development discussions. This is only open to Chinese (online only) and Spanish (in-person only) A, B, or C language alumni.
Cost
The one-hour introductory webinar on the first day is free.
The full course is one credit and costs $2008.
