Winter 2026

Winter on the Monterey Peninsula is always a treat! The temperatures are wonderfully moderate, though some cold days when there are less visitors from other places! There is no snow! It is a great time to visit the sights and participate in wonderful community events like Ice Skating by the Bay at the historic customs plaza. Many Winter events are going on the Peninsula. Good food and places for a great holiday meals abound!  

There are many ways to bring in the New Year in Monterey County from First Night Monterey, to great dining options, and even a way to start on our resolutions by shopping a farm to table from our local farmers markets.

Winter and Wildlife go together from whale watching, bird watching in the fragrant forest of rare Monterey Pine in Jacks Peak Park offers ridge-top vistas to view hawks and swifts. The Marina Dunes Preserve and sandy shores of Carmel River State Beach flocks of threatened snowy plovers and the beach’s freshwater lagoon attracts champion-flyer Arctic terns too. While sea otters float on their backs near kelp forests – newborns cuddled on their mother’s tummies. See these wee pups at Elkhorn Slough, Point Lobos State Natural Reserve and all along the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail.
