Soka University of America (SUA) has signed an agreement with Middlebury to purchase the Middlebury Institute campus in Monterey. The sale establishes the Monterey Institute of International Studies at Soka University of America, which will continue select graduate programs, including the MA in Interpretation for Diplomats and Executives, starting fall 2027.

Fall 2025 was the final intake for the Middlebury offering of this program. Currently enrolled students will complete their degrees by summer 2027. We are committed to supporting all of our students through the completion of their degrees with rigorous academics, experiential learning opportunities, and career planning. Learn more.
Our MA in Interpretation for Diplomats and Executives (IDE) will accelerate and expand your career opportunities. You will receive exceptional training in your target languages and international affairs, grounded in experiential learning.
This program is only available to applicants fully or majority funded by their employers.
Program chair, Andrea Hofmann-Miller, has extensive experience interpreting for politicians, state department representatives, and other world leaders on topics including unions, mergers, joint ventures, and more.
