The combination of continued coastal development, climate change impacts, and reduced federal resources signals “big trouble” ahead for America’s coasts, according to researchers from the Middlebury Institute’s National Ocean Economics Program.
Students and faculty from the Middlebury Institute were invited to participate in a roundtable discussion hosted by U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman.
Two recent alumnae and one student from the Middlebury Institute’s International Environmental Policy program have been awarded the prestigious California Sea Grant Fellowship.

Each year a cohort of professionals brings expertise to the Institute.
“I felt like a thousand candles were lit, inspiring people to help save our oceans,” said one audience member at Wednesday evening’s event with legendary marine biologist, author, and ocean activist Sylvia Earle, hosted by the Middlebury Institute’s Center for the Blue Economy.
Students at the Middlebury Institute have the opportunity to live and work in another part of the world while enrolled, whether on a summer fellowship or as a Peace Corps Masters International.
